Tap Into Downtown festival keeps it flowing Saturday

Downtown Odessa is going with the flow — and its craft beer and wine tasting festival is pouring on.

The second Tap Into Downtown Odessa event is set for Saturday, undeterred by a reschedule from last fall, and gearing up to uncork the taste of several wineries, breweries and local food trucks over downtown for 21-and-up attendees.

The event is set to run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday between 4th and 6th streets on Grant Avenue. Tickets are $15.

After the event’s debut in the fall of 2016, the second iteration was originally scheduled for last September, before it was washed out with rain. But now, the event is set to push on with just as many vendors and just as much excitement as ever — plus, a bit more green.

“The reschedule just happens to be St. Patrick’s Day, so we’re excited about that,” said Haley Howey, the event coordinator for host Downtown Odessa, Inc., earlier this week.

“We’re going to kind of go with the theme.”

With some green beer and green wine to boot, and with a Celtic bagpipe group kicking off the night’s music before The Piano Room and The West Texas Jazz Project tune up, attendees will have the chance to enjoy tastings and the live music, plus games like cornhole and life-size beer pong.

“It should be pretty fun,” Howey said.

Nine different Texan wineries and eight different craft breweries are set to be featured, with nine food trucks in tow.

Howey said the rain-out and reschedule hasn’t deterred interest from vendors.

“We actually have most of the wineries and breweries that were signed up for the September one coming back,” she said, noting the event actually has one more winery and three more food trucks on board this time around.

“I know that reschedules are always kind of iffy. They’re always kind of scary. … But we’ve seen a lot of traffic from this,” she said.
