Livthecity, a free service that sends out weekly curated text messages with information about events in different areas of the Permian Basin, has expanded to the Midland-Odessa area.
Liv432, the service in the area covered by the 432 area code, sends out a text message at 10 a.m. each Thursday with a list of events, music, culture and nightlife in the area.
“A variety of factors come into play when deciding what events will be featured in the weekly list,” Carla Ruiz, liv432’s social media coordinator, said. “For example, is the event unique to the area? Are people excited about the event?”
Ruiz said thousands of people have signed up to receive the weekly text messages.
“The list of members continues to grow every day,” she said.
It’s also free for businesses to have their events listed.
“We encourage any event organizer to send us their listings,” Ruiz said.
Liv432 is provided by Midland-based MODE Communications. To keep the service free, users receive a sponsor text message a few minutes after receiving the list of events.
Ruiz said that liv432 also provides other features for businesses and residents to take advantage of – livFREE and livSOON.
The liv432 website says, “livFREE is designed for those companies dying to give you free stuff (food, tickets, swag, etc.) livSOON is for the planners among you who enjoy advance notice on upcoming events.”
Ruiz says liv432 also offers advertising opportunities for businesses.
“Liv432 encourages businesses to send in their events through Facebook,” Ruiz said. “However, this does not guarantee that they will be placed on the list. If there is a big event, and the business wants to guarantee that it gets seen by our members, there are a few advertising opportunities on our platform.”
Most of the events take place in Midland, but events in Odessa are listed occasionally. People can sign up to receive the messages by texting “liv432” to 96000.
