Known for its yearly haunted house, Def Con 1 will be opening its doors on Friday for attendees to experience their own version of a slasher movie in Haunted Laser Tag.

The games begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Def Con 1 warehouse, 2215 W. Second St. Inside the warehouse, players can expect to find around a dozen varieties of the famous cinematic slasher, Jason Voorhees, who stars in the series of movies based around the day the games begin, “Friday the 13th.”

Billy “Bloody Bill” Pon runs the Def Con 1 haunted house and the Haunted Laser Tag event, and said he aims to give players the real-life feeling of a horror movie experience.

“It’s like being in your own video game,” Pon said. “It’s the coolest thing that you’ll ever do. You try it once and you’ll get hooked.”

Pon himself is a filmmaker, having previously produced the horror movie “Circus of the Dead,” which was produced in Odessa and released at several horror film festivals in 2017.

The game consists of teams of players traveling through the maze of the warehouse, shooting the different kinds of Jasons as they appear. Around a dozen different versions of Jason will be in the maze, including the famous 8-bit Jason from the NES game adaptation of the movie.

Pon first started Haunted Laser Tag last Halloween, featuring zombies and killer clowns for participants to fight against, and Pon said, should this take off, he would hope to do more varieties of haunted laser tag, including a Horror legends version, featuring famous horror movie villains such as Pinhead from “Hellraiser” and Michael Myers from “Halloween.”

Tickets are $20 each for Haunted Laser Tag, and the event will run from 7 p.m. to midnight on both Friday and Saturday.
