OPD warns of phone scam

The Odessa Police Department has received several complaints recently about phone scammers claiming to be raising money for their “local police department.”

During these calls, according to an OPD news release, individuals claim they are raising money for the police department, or troopers, and are needing help, and asking individuals personal questions such as the type of business they own.

One person reportedly received a scam call from a number listed as 832-230-0969, the release detailed.

OPD said they do not solicit money from the public, and that should anyone receive a phone call, email, or text message claiming to work for the “local police department”, do not pay any money or provide any personal information and hang up the phone.
