Earthquake felt in area

Residents between Odessa and Midland felt a 3.5 magnitude earthquake late Friday night.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey website the earthquake occurred at 11:52 p.m. about seven miles from Odessa.

In a previous OA article, geologists say the quakes are “induced” phenomena caused by the high pressure injection of massive amounts of salt water into wells for the disposal of fluids used in the hydraulic fracturing or “fracking” of bedrock oil or gas formations.
