DPS reports multiple fatal wrecks on Thursday

Two men were killed in separate crashes on Permian Basin highways Thursday.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jorge Marin, 45, of El Paso was traveling south in the northbound lanes of FM 1053 when his Kenworth truck with trailer struck a Peterbilt truck with trailer being driven by a 59-year-old Odessa man.

Marin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just outside Fort Stockton around 1:30 p.m. The other driver was treated for minor injuries and released, according to DPS.

Roughly four hours later, Benjamin Montgomery, a 32-year-old Midland resident, was driving a Toyota 4Runner when he veered across the oncoming lanes of State Highway 158 for unknown reasons. His truck hit a fence and rolled multiple times, according to DPS.

Montgomery, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, DPS stated. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened roughly four miles west of Midland.
