Discover Odessa is launching a mobile Queso & Margarita Trail

Discover Odessa, the official tourism organization for Odessa, is launching the Queso & Margarita Trail, a new program that aims to increase traffic to our local restaurants.

The passport is a free program that all visitors and locals can sign up for. With six local businesses included within the passport, it showcases the best restaurants to stop and eat queso and enjoy a margarita, a news release said.

Conversations began on how to help our local businesses in 2020 when they were all struggling to survive and led Discover Odessa to reach out to a well-known technology company in the travel space, Bandwango.

Bandwango technology is designed to support free and paid experiences created by destinations and marketed to visitors and locals, the release said.

Visitors and locals will be able to visit a dedicated mobile passport landing page where they can sign up by providing their name, e-mail address, mobile phone number. A link is then sent to their mobile phone, which opens the passport and directs the user to add the button icon to their home screen, where they can access it any time. There is never anything to download and no bulky apps taking up space on a user’s phone.

Once the individual is ready to redeem their pass, they hand their phone over at the checkout counter to access the savings coupon, the release said.

“This passport is very easy to use and only took me about 2 minutes to download. We have restaurants who have offered 50 percent off an entrée and even one business that is giving anyone that redeems the coupon a free margarita!” said Mary Rains, Marketing & Communications Specialist with Discover Odessa.
