Women charged with assaulting each other over game room winnings

A 47-year-old woman and a 41-year-old woman were each arrested after they reportedly assaulted each other with a knife after one woman accused the other of stealing money she made overnight at a game room.

Kenyata Johnson, 47, and Shaniqua Clay, 41, were each charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, and public intoxication, a class C misdemeanor. Johnson was additionally charged with possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.

The reported assault happened at 7:20 a.m. Oct. 20 in the 700 block of Belmont Avenue, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit stated. Johnson and Clay were outside of the residence that was open to the public.

Johnson and Clay were both reportedly seen to be highly intoxicated on alcohol by having a strong odor of alcoholic beverages, slurred speech and red glassy eyes. Johnson and Clay admitted to consuming alcohol and stated they were involved in a disturbance that led to a fight with a deadly weapon.

Johnson and Clay both told officers that they were arguing due to Johnson accusing Clay of stealing money that she made overnight at a game room. Johnson and Clay admitted they were in a fight and blamed each other of pulling a knife out and attempting to stab each other.

Clay reported that Johnson had attempted to stab her and that she was able to take the knife away from her, the affidavit stated. Clay had fresh visible injuries on her left arm and hand that were consistent with her allegation and possibly of being cut with a knife.

Johnson reportedly had inconsistent stories on who had the knife and claimed that Clay had the knife and caused bodily injury to her with it. Officers saw that Johnson had fresh visible injuries to her left hand consistent with being cut with a knife.

Officers located the knife inside the residence with consent of Johnson, the affidavit stated. When inside the residence and in Johnson’s room, officers saw a usable amount of marijuana in plain view. Johnson admitted to the marijuana being hers.

Johnson and Clay reportedly had inconsistent stories on who the predominant aggressor was and each had visible injuries that were consistent with being assaulted with a knife. Johnson and Clay were intoxicated to the degree of being a danger to themselves or others.

Johnson and Clay were each arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. Johnson has two bonds totaling $30,500 and was still in custody as of Friday afternoon, jail records show. Clay has two bonds totaling $30,312 and was still in custody as of Friday afternoon.
