Teenager charged with choking, punching girlfriend

Police charged a 17-year-old Monday after he reportedly punched his girlfriend in the face and choked her during an argument.

Officers were called about an assault victim around 11:30 p.m. Monday at Marriott Residence Inn, 7261 Tres Hermanas Blvd., an Odessa Police Department news release stated, where they made contact with the 19-year-old victim and her boyfriend, 17-year-old Robert Gonzalez Jr.

The release detailed that after the two got into an argument over money, Gonzalez pulled his girlfriend’s hair, slapped and punched her, and began choking her.

Officers could see bodily injury on the victim’s neck, arms and face, the release detailed, and Gonzalez reportedly admitted to assaulting her.

Gonzalez was charged with assault by strangulation, a third-degree felony.

Jail records show Gonzalez was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Monday and has a $15,000 bond.
