Suspect charged with shooting at residence

A man who reportedly fired 15 rounds into another person’s residence was charged by police Tuesday.

Police were called about shots fired around 9:16 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of West Clements Street, an Odessa Police Department press release said.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the 30-year-old complainant, the release stated, who told police a man he knew, 36-year-old Jose Nava, had shot multiple times at his residence.

The release detailed there had been a disturbance between the two, and after the complainant shut the front door of his residence and went inside, he heard several shots being fired. Nava left in a white GMC pick-up before police arrived.

No injuries were reported, the release said, and police found about 15 shell casings at the scene, as well as several bullet holes and bullet slugs inside the residence.

Officers found Nava’s vehicle around 10:17 p.m. in the area of Eighth Street and Dixie Boulevard, the release stated.

Following a traffic stop identifying Nava, the release said Nava admitted to shooting at the complainant.

OPD charged Nava with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Jail records show Nava was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Wednesday and has a $50,000 bond.
