Suspect charged in fatal 2013 shooting

A suspect was charged Sunday in connection with the fatal 2013 shooting of an 18-year-old man who died of his injuries more than a year later.

Kevorick Shedwin, 27, was charged Sunday with murder, a first-degree felony, in connection with the fatal shooting of D’Quay Harris in 2013 in south Odessa, jail records show.

Harris was shot several times in the chest in January 2013 in the 1900 block of Rochester Avenue, and later died from complications with the shooting in November 2014, the Odessa American previously reported.

One suspect, 34-year-old Richard Martin, was identified as one of the shooters, the OA previously reported, and was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting in February 2017.

Martin and others reportedly lured Harris and his friend, Ervin Terry, to the 1900 block of Rochester Avenue on the mistaken belief they assaulted Martin’s stepdaughter and robbed his home of money and drugs.

Shedwin and one other person believed to be involved in the shooting, 26-year-old Canaan Bars, were first charged in 2016 and 2017. A probable cause affidavit stated witnesses had told Odessa Police Department detectives they had seen Shedwin, Bars and Martin firing shots at Harris and Terry.

Ector County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson said the warrants for Shedwin’s arrest were issued by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Court records show Bars was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting in January of 2017, but has yet to be indicted in connection with the charge.

Jail records show Shedwin was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Sunday and has no bonds set.
