OPD: Woman charged after reportedly punching, spitting at officer

A woman was charged by the Odessa Police Department after she reportedly punched an officer in the chin and shoulder and later spit at her after being arrested.

Police first noticed a woman walking in the road around 11:07 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the 1900 block of East Eighth Street, according to an OPD news release.

While conducting a pedestrian stop, the woman, 39-year-old Dora Hampton, tried to evade officers, the release detailed. While police attempted to handcuff Hampton, she punched a female officer in the chin and shoulder.

After being placed into custody, Hampton then spit at that same officer, the release stated.

OPD charged Hampton with assault on a public servant and harassment of a public servant, third-degree felonies, evading arrest and resisting arrest, class A misdemeanors.

Jail records show Hampton was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Feb. 20 and has four bonds totaling $32,000.
