OPD: Woman assaulted ex-boyfriend with cross

A woman was arrested Saturday night after she reportedly struck her ex-boyfriend with a cross with metal nails sticking out of it.

Police were called about a domestic disturbance around 11:48 p.m. Saturday night in the 3500 block of Lake Lane, where they made contact with the 42-year-old victim and his ex-girlfriend, 43-year-old Monica Minjarez.

Minjarez reportedly began swinging at her ex-boyfriend during an argument, and then grabbed a cross off of the wall and struck his head with it, an Odessa Police Department news release stated. The cross had metal nails on the front of it, causing injuries to his head.

Officers charged Minjarez with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Jail records show Minjarez was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Saturday night and released Sunday on a $25,000 bond.
