OPD officers arrest suspect in hit and run

Police charged a man Saturday after he reportedly fled the scene of crash that left two people with injuries.

Around 12:28 a.m. Saturday, police were called about a major crash in the 8000 block of East Highway 191.

A silver 2018 Honda Civic, being driven by 20-year-old Arnold Rodriguez, was traveling east on Highway 191 with passenger Jasmine Pando, 21, an Odessa police Department news release stated.

At the same time, the suspect, 28-year-old Jose Moya, was traveling east in a black 2010 Cadillac CTS when he collided with the Civic from behind, the release detailed, causing it to lose control and leave the roadway, sliding down the median and rolling over onto the south frontage road.

Moya reportedly left the scene of the accident without rendering aid, the release stated. Both Rodriguez and Pando were taken to Medical Center Hospital with personal injuries.

Police later found Moya at his residence in the 13600 block of West County Road 123, the release detailed, with debris from the crash all over his clothing and injuries consistent with being involved in a crash.

Moya was charged with two counts of accident involving personal injury or death, a felony, driving while license invalid and no proof of insurance, class B misdemeanors.

Jail records show Moya was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Saturday with four bonds totaling $23,000.
