OPD: Man reportedly stole generator from trailer

A felon was charged Tuesday by police after reportedly stealing a generator from a trailer.

Officers were called about a theft on Feb. 3 at Jack Jordan’s BBQ, 1501 N. JBS Parkway, according to an Odessa Police Department news release.

The complainant told officers unknown subjects had burglarized a trailer and stole a Honda generator, the release detailed.

One of the suspects was identified as 27-year-old David Mack Smith, the release stated, who was located Tuesday in the 1400 block of Pagewood Avenue in possession of the stolen generator.

Smith immediately fled on foot when detectives arrived, but was then caught and placed into custody, the release said.

Several firearms were found in Smith’s possession, the release stated, and it was discovered Smith was a convicted felon and that he had a probation warrant for burglary of a building.

Officers charged Smith with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony, theft, a state jail felony, and evading arrest, a class A misdemeanor.

Jail records show Smith was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Tuesday and has three bonds totaling $45,000.
