OPD charges man with choking girlfriend

A man was charged Wednesday after he reportedly pushed his girlfriend onto the bed and began choking and punching her.

Police were called about a domestic disturbance at about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Fitch Avenue, an Odessa Police Department news release stated.

Officers made contact with the 27-year-old victim and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Mykel Sanchez.

The release detailed that after getting into an argument over a vehicle, Sanchez pushed his girlfriend onto a bed and began choking her, then began punching her.

Sanchez admitted to shoving his girlfriend onto the bed and choking her, the release stated.

Police charged Sanchez with assault by strangulation, a third-degree felony.

Jail records show Sanchez was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Thursday and has a $25,000 bond.
