A 19-year-old Midland man died, while four other were hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision in northwest Odessa.

The reported fatal collision happened at 10 p.m. July 18 on State Highway 302, a Texas Department of Public Safety press release stated.

Chance D. Eaden, 24, of Midland was reportedly driving a 2017 Dodge Charger with passengers Nicholas Terrazas, 19, of Midland, Kevin A. Martinez, 20, of Midland and German Aguirre Jr., 19, of Midland.

Cesar H. Muela-Acosta, 42, of Odessa was driving a 2005 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer, the press release stated. The truck tractor was traveling west on State Highway 302, while the Charger was also traveling west on State Highway 302 a short distance behind the truck tractor.

The truck tractor reportedly slowed down to turn into a parking lot. The Charger failed to control its speed and struck the rear of the truck tractor. Terrazas was pronounced dead at the scene by Ector County Medical Examiner.

Terrazas was reportedly the only person in both vehicles that wasn’t wearing his seatbelt.
