Medical marijuana seized during warrant arrest

More than four pounds of marijuana were seized Friday during the execution of a warrant for a man charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Warrant deputies and probation officers were serving a warrant on 32-year-old Manuel Dimas Fierro, around 11:15 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Greer Avenue, an Ector County Sheriff’s Office news release stated.

The release detailed Fierro had a warrant for a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was on probation for sexual assault of a child, both second-degree felonies.

While serving the warrant, the release stated, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana in the residence, and found 47 bags labeled as medical marijuana hidden inside a wall of the residence and inside the frame of a sofa and in a vehicle parked at the residence.

All of the marijuana weighed more than four pounds in total, the release detailed.

Deputies charged Fierro with possession of marijuana, a state jail felony, along with the original outstanding warrant.

Fierro was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Friday and no bond had been set as of Friday afternoon, the release stated.
