Man charged with sexual assault of 14-year-old

Odessa police charged a man Friday after he reportedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy several times.

The sexual assault was first reported to the Odessa Police Department on Feb. 27, an OPD news release stated.

Investigation determined that a 14-year-old boy had been sexually assaulted by a known person, 29-year-old Brandon Jerome Shaw, the release detailed.

Shaw had reportedly exchanged text messages with the victim and sent him inappropriate pictures of himself, the release stated. Shaw later texted the boy, telling the 14-year-old to meet him at his apartment, the release detailed.

After police determined Shaw had sexually assaulted the boy several times, OPD charged Shaw with four counts of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony, and one count of indecency with a child, a second-degree felony.

Shaw was already booked in the Ector County Detention Center on charges of possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony, and evading arrest, a class A misdemeanor, the release stated.

Jail records show Shaw was taken to the Ector County Detention Center on March 1 and has seven bonds totaling $150,000.
