Police charged a man Thursday after he reportedly ran over a security officer with his car outside the MCM Grande Hotel & FunDome.

Officers were called about a security officer needing assistance around 1:38 a.m. Thursday at the hotel, 6201 East Highway 80, an Odessa Police Department news release stated, and arrived to find the 31-year-old officer lying on the ground in the hotel parking lot.

The officer had reportedly tried to detain the suspect, 24-year-old Michael Deanda Jr., and Deanda pushed the officer and tried to leave in his black Toyota Camry, the release detailed.

A witness told officers Deanda then intentionally ran the officer over before leaving the scene, the release stated. The officer was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries.

Deanda was later found and charged with assault on a public servant, a first-degree felony.

Jail records show Deanda was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Thursday and has no bond set at this time.
