Man charged with assault, meth possession

Police charged a man Monday after he reportedly pepper-sprayed his wife and their baby, and began choking his wife until she blacked out while she was holding their baby.

Officers were called about a domestic disturbance Monday at Arbor Oaks Apartments, 1000 E. Monahans St., according to an Odessa Police Department news release.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the 19-year-old complainant and her 8-month old son, the release stated.

After she had got into an argument with her husband, 34-year-old Tyrell Corley, he reportedly pepper sprayed her and their baby, the release detailed, and then followed her into the bathroom and began choking her.

The release stated the complainant blacked out while holding the baby and Corley left the scene before police arrived.

A warrant was obtained for Corley, who was charged with assault by strangulation and injury to a child, third-degree felonies. And after finding around 5.9 grams of methamphetamine, 7.5 grams of marijuana and narcotic pipes, Corley was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, a second-degree felony, and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.

Jail records show Corley was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Wednesday and has four bonds totaling $80,500.
