Officers were called Wednesday evening to Springwood Apartments after dispatch advised they could hear people telling someone to put a gun down, a probable cause affidavit stated.

Officers found two people in the doorway of the apartment and a man in the rear of the apartment, 30-year-old Michael Vaden.

Vaden then fired a single gunshot from the interior of the residence to an unknown location and fled into the back of the apartment, the report detailed.

Police discovered Vaden had pointed a firearm directly at his father, 55-year-old Jack Vaden, prior to officers’ arrival, during an argument, the affidavit stated.

Vaden’s father told police his son had been arguing with multiple family members in the apartment because the volume on the television broke and he could hear voices, the report detailed. Vaden then reportedly pointed the firearm directly at his father. Jack Vaden later told officers he thought “this is it.”

After Vaden showed to be previously convicted of several felonies, most recently burglary of a habitation in January, he was charged by police with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony.

Jail records show Vaden was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Thursday and has two bonds totaling $150,000.
