Man charged with aggravated assault after crash

Police charged a man Sunday who reportedly collided with a pick-up truck filled with five people with his vehicle and attempted to run them off the road.

Officers were first called to Eastridge Road and Gillespie Lane about a two-vehicle crash around 12:24 p.m. Sunday, an Odessa Police Department news release said.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver of a red Ford F-250, 37-year-old Hector Garcia, and the driver and four passengers of a black Ford F-250, the release stated.

The driver of the black F-250 reportedly told officers Garcia had intentionally collided into his vehicle and tried to run them off the road.

An independent witness told officers they saw the two vehicles traveling westbound on Eastridge Road, the release detailed, and that the Garcia’s vehicle used the left turn lane to pass the black F-250 on its left side while traveling at a high rate of speed, then cut off the black F-250, causing both vehicles to collide.

The release stated no injuries were reported.

Both drivers reportedly had a past involving physical violence between each other, the release added.

Garcia was charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Jail records show Garcia was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Monday and was released the same day on five bonds totaling $250,000.
