Man charged in connection with Albertsons robbery

The Odessa Police Department charged a man Wednesday after he reportedly stole merchandise from Albertsons and threatened to assault an employee who confronted him, an OPD press release said.

Police arrested the suspect, 43-year-old Timothy Eugene Thomas, around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at Albertsons, 1350 East Eighth St., the release stated.

The release detailed Thomas had concealed merchandise on his person and left the store without attempting to pay. Upon being confronted by an employee, Thomas reportedly told him “don’t make me reach for my weapon,” and the two got into a scuffle, leaving the employee with bodily injury on his chest, a torn shirt, and a broken necklace afterwards, the release said.

Surveillance footage of the incident confirmed the employee’s account, the release detailed.

Thomas was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony.

Jail records show Thomas was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Thursday and his bond was set at $7,500.
