Man charged after Thursday shooting

A man was arrested Thursday and charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after shooting at an occupied vehicle in Odessa, an Odessa police release states.

Kavas Sueon-Dejohn Green, 19, was arrested and charged with five counts of second-degree-felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, state jail felony evading arrest or detention with prior convictions, misdemeanor unlawful carrying of a weapon, misdemeanor false identification fugitive from justice, and on three felony warrants.

There were no reports of any injuries during the incident.

The release states that officers responded to the area of Electric Street and Wabash Avenue on Thursday afternoon on the call of a male subject, later identified as Green, shooting at the caller. When officers arrived, Green immediately began to evade officers on foot, ultimately running several blocks into an abandoned house in the area of Hudson Avenue and Myrtle Street, the release states.

Officers searched the residence and found Green hiding in a closet, in possession of a handgun, and placed him in custody, the release states, while investigation revealed that Green shot an occupied vehicle five times, with witnesses positively identifying Green as the person who shot at the vehicle.

The release states Green initially gave officers a false name and date of birth but later admitted he had given a false name and date of birth, while investigation revealed that Green had a prior conviction on evading arrest. Green was arrested and charged and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
