Man charged after security officer assaulted at local bar

The Odessa Police Department arrested a man Sunday night after he reportedly fought with security officers at a local bar.

Police responded to the incident around 11:39 p.m. Sunday at Halftime Grill & Cantina, 2110 Andrews Highway, in reference to a fight in the patio area, an OPD press release said.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with 45-year-old Eugenio Navarrete, who had reportedly been fighting with security officers, the release stated.

Navarrete reportedly punched one of the security officers in the face, causing bodily injury, the release stated, and after a body search, police found a bag of cocaine in the suspect’s front right pocket.

Police charged Navarrete with assault on a public servant, a third-degree felony, possession of cocaine, a state jail felony, and public intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.

Jail records show Navarrete was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Monday and released the same day on two bonds totaling $18,500.
