After reportedly threatening to kill his mother and her boyfriend at knifepoint, police charged a man Friday night with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers were first called about a domestic disturbance on March 31 in the 1200 block of South Lincoln Avenue, an Odessa Police Department news release stated. Dispatch advised officers that the suspect, 47-year-old Steven Garcia, was armed and destroying property at the residence.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the 67-year-old victim and her boyfriend, the release detailed. Garcia had reportedly held a knife against her throat and threatened to kill her during an argument between the two, then began destroying items in the residence.

When the victim’s boyfriend tried to break up the disturbance, Garcia punched him in the face and also threatened to kill him with the knife, the release stated. Garcia then fled the scene before officers arrived.

Garcia was eventually arrested Friday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, the release stated.

Jail records show Garcia was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Friday and has two bonds totaling $100,000.
