Man accused of assaulting 13-year-old girl with aluminum cane

Police charged a man Sunday after he reportedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl with an aluminum cane.

Officers were called about a disturbance around 10:42 a.m. Sunday at Jackson Square Apartments, 1120 N. Jackson Ave., an Odessa Police Department news release stated, where they made contact with the victim and a 62-year-old woman.

The suspect, 61-year-old Leo Richardson, had reportedly got upset after a dog chewed up his cell phone charging cord. When the victim came back into the residence to get something, Richardson struck her in the arm several times and once on the top of the head with a cane, the release detailed.

The 62-year-old woman saw the incident and confronted Richardson about the assault, the release stated. Richardson then reportedly threatened to inflict serious injury or death on the victim.

Police charged Richardson with injury to a child, a third-degree felony.

Jail records show Richardson was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Sunday and has a $15,000 bond.
