Woman charged with assaulting husband with kitchen knife

A 45-year-old woman was arrested after she reportedly assaulted her husband with a kitchen knife.

Alecia Mrotzek was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence), a second-degree felony.

The reported assault happened at 5 p.m. May 9 in the 7000 block of Kate Reed Drive, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit stated.

Officers reportedly made contact with the victim, identified as Gregg Mrotzek, who stated that his wife, Alecia Mrotzek, started a disturbance after she caught him recording her conversations. Gregg Mrotzek stated during the disturbance his wife struck him on the left of his face that knocked his glasses off.

Gregg Mrotzek stated that his wife grabbed a kitchen knife with a black handle and a silver blade, the affidavit stated. She was swinging it in a slashing and stabbing motion.

Gregg Mrotzek reportedly told officers that while his wife was swinging the knife, he put his arms up to protect himself and that she slashed his right forearm. Gregg Mrotzek pointed out the kitchen knife used in the assault and officers saw the knife on the kitchen floor with dried blood on the blade.

Officers also saw video surveillance footage of Alecia Mrotzek chasing her husband outside of the residence with a sharp pointed object in her left hand that was consistent with Gregg Mrotzek’s story, the affidavit stated.

Alecia Mrotzek was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. She had one bond totaling $30,000 and posted bail on May 11, jail records show.
