Felon charged with stolen firearm after traffic stop

The Odessa Police Department arrested a felon Thursday during a traffic stop after a stolen firearm was found on his person, an OPD press release said.

Police pulled over the man, 40-year-old Jason Lance Gordon, around 11:44 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of West Murphy after he was seen driving with an expired registration, the release stated.

During the traffic stop, officers could reportedly smell an odor of marijuana from the vehicle, and a Taurus .380 caliber pistol was found inside Gordon’s jacket. It was further discovered Gordon was a convicted felon, the release detailed.

The listed firearm had previously been reported stolen out of Ector County, the release said.

Gordon was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony, and theft of a firearm, a state jail felony, the release stated.

Jail records show Gordon was booked into the Ector County Detention Center Thursday and has two bonds totaling $40,000.
