Ex-boyfriend charged with stalking, assault

Police charged a man Wednesday after he reportedly stalked his ex-girlfriend outside her house and punched her in the face and head and choked her.

Officers were called about an assault around 2 a.m. Wednesday to the 1300 block of Douglas Drive, an Odessa Police Department news release stated.

Upon arrival, police made contact with the 31-year-old victim, who told them her ex-boyfriend, 32-year-old Marcus Hughes, had come to her house three times knocking on the front and back door and left around one minute before officers showed up, the release detailed.

She told police when she turned on the bathroom light, Hughes began banging on her bathroom window while making threats, the release stated. Hughes reportedly said he was going to come back and “hurt her.”

The release detailed that around 30 minutes before police arrived, Hughes reportedly punched his ex-girlfriend in the face and head before choking her.

Three minutes after officers completed the report and left the scene, the complainant called 9-1-1 again and said Hughes had returned and was trying to enter the house, the release stated.

When police arrived on scene, Hughes reportedly jumped over a back fence and began running down the alley, the release detailed, but was later found by police, and in possession of binoculars.

Hughes was charged with stalking, a third-degree felony, and assault causing bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor.

Jail records show Hughes was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Wednesday and was released the next day on two bonds totaling $30,000.
