Deputies searching for suspect after lengthy pursuit

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man they believe led them on a lengthy pursuit Sunday through Ector County.

At about 11:50 p.m. Sunday, a deputy saw a yellow and black Camero fail to stop at a red light at NE Loop 338 and JPS Parkway, an ECSO news release stated. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect evaded at a high rate of speed, driving into town and continuing to disregard stop signs and traffic lights.

The vehicle turned onto a dead end street on Liberty Place, but as officers attempted to box the vehicle in, the suspect vehicle rammed into one of the patrol units and again eluded officers, the release stated.

The patrol unit received only minor damage. The pursuit was terminated, but officers determined the driver to be 23-year-old John Alex Ellsworth. Ellsworth had an outstanding warrant for motion to adjudicate guilt and a failure to appear warrant for possession of cocaine, the release stated.

OPD found the suspect vehicle abandoned in the 3800 block of Bowie Avenue.

Ellsworth now faces additional charges of evading arrest in a motor vehicle, a third-degree felony.

No arrest had been made as of Monday afternoon.
