Deputies charge suspect in high-speed chase

A man was apprehended by Ector County deputies following a high speed chase that ended when the driver crashed into a tree Wednesday.

The chase began around 3:40 p.m. near 87th Street and Claymoor Drive and ended in the 3600 block of Walnut Avenue, according to an Ector County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Both the driver and passenger began running from officers after exiting the vehicle, but the passenger, 17-year-old Zade Mendoza, was captured and charged with evading arrest and detention, a class A misdemeanor, the release stated.

The driver evaded officers, but the release said he has been positively identified and has a warrant out for his arrest for evading in a motor vehicle.
