Convicted felon charged after traffic stop

After initiating a traffic stop, Odessa police reportedly saw a driver throw a gun out of the passenger window and the man, a convicted felon, is now facing felony charges.

Officers first noticed a beige 2007 Cadillac around 12:42 p.m. Wednesday exiting from a private driveway, nearly causing a collision after failing to yield to the right-of-way, according to an Odessa Police Department news release.

During a traffic stop, the release detailed, officers saw a black gun being thrown out of the passenger window, and immediately detained the driver, 30-year-old John George.

The release stated George had a felony conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and tampering with physical evidence, third-degree felonies.

Jail records show George was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Wednesday and was released the next day on two bonds totaling $30,000.
