Active shooter rumor leads to shelter in place

Ector County Independent School District police investigated a rumor of a shooter at Nimitz Middle School, 4900 Maple Ave., Monday, but found nothing, Public Information Officer Mike Adkins said.

Adkins said students went to the Nimitz principal and reported that other students were talking about coming to “shoot the place up.”

District police checked and it was all rumors.

Meanwhile, the UTPB STEM Academy across the street went into shelter in place as a precaution, according to a Tweet posted by My Falcon Radio.

The UTPB chief of police has recommended dismissal as normal, the post stated.
