19-year-old charged with driving intoxicated with child in vehicle

Odessa police arrested a 19-year-old woman on Wednesday on charges related to driving while intoxicated with a three-year-old in the vehicle.

Emily Nicole Morgan, 19, was arrested and charged with state-jail-felony driving while intoxicated with a child passenger.

An Odessa police release states Morgan was arrested at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after she ran a stop sign and nearly struck an Odessa police vehicle and officer while driving on the wrong side of the road, before she failed a field sobriety test.

The release states Morgan drove a blue Dodge Durango, running a stop sign at the intersection of 10th Street and Royalty Avenue, then nearly striking an OPD unit on 10th Street.

During a traffic stop, the release states officers smelled the odor of alcohol from Morgan’s breath, and identified a back passenger as a 3-year-old girl.

Morgan was arrested and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center, the release states, while Child Protective Services was notified of the incident and the child was released to a friend.
