Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting

A 39-year-old man pleaded guilty for his involvement in the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man.

Johnny Ray Aguirre pleaded guilty to murder, a capital felony, on Aug. 11.

Aguirre was sentenced to 30 years in prison, court records show. He was credited for 1,288 days.

Judge James Rush of the 244th District Court approved the deal. Aguirre was arrested and booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Feb. 1, 2018, jail records detail.

Aguirre is the second of three people involved in the shooting death of 26-year-old Ryan Stebbins. Michael Silvas pleaded guilty in November 2019 and he was sentenced to life in prison. David Dearick was the third person charged in connection to the fatal shooting and is scheduled to have a jury trial at 9 a.m. Nov. 15 in the 244th District Courtroom of Judge Rush.

The fatal shooting of Stebbins happened around 12:45 a.m. Feb. 1, 2018, in the 2200 block of Richmond Street, a previous Odessa American article detailed. Stebbins had been shot in the chest. He was taken to Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
