Celebrate library card sign up month

Odessa Arts, in partnership with the Writers’ League of Texas, and the Ector County Library is pleased to announce a week of activities celebrating the written word.

Kicking off on Sept. 11, the Writers’ League of Texas and Odessa Arts will host a day long intensive writer’s workshop.

“The Craft and Business of Writing,” will feature Writers’ League executive director Becka Oliver as well as Texas authors Stacey Swann and James Wade leading participants through the various stages of writing and publishing. The workshop will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wolfcamp Room of the Odessa Downtown Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. Registration is $49. Fans of Literary Death Match will rejoice at the return of the literary sensation that combines wit, creativity, and gameshow zaniness. Literary Death Match will feature above mentioned Writer’s League authors as well as Sarah Bird, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Kathy Valentine, Odessa native Jeramey Kraatz, and Typewriter Rodeo. Celebrated artist Heidi Pitre returns to Odessa with her exhibit of library card art. “A Permanent Record,” repurposes vintage library cards into unique artworks that celebrate the written word. Pitre’s work will be exhibited at the Ector County Library from Sept. 6 to Nov. 19, 2023. A special reception will be held for Pitre as well as new library Director Howard Marks on Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. on the first floor of the Ector County Library. Pitre will also hold a library card art workshop on Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Ector County Library. The reception and the workshop are free and open to the public.

The Friends of the Ector County Library will hold their annual meeting on September 16th at noon in the Ector County Library to elect new officers.

At all events, Ector County Library will be on hand to sign up patrons for library cards.
