Board plans to announce lone finalist April 23

The announcement of a sole finalist for a new Ector County Independent School District superintendent is tentatively set for April 23.
Board President Doyle Woodall said after a Friday executive session that the search firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates will conduct background checks and trustees will start going through references.
The April 23 meeting will probably be at 6 p.m. in the board room of the administration building, 802 N. Same Houston Ave.
“We’re trying to arrange a site visit. It’s not 100 percent over with yet, but we feel fairly confident we’ll be able to name a sole finalist,” Woodall said Friday afternoon.
The board met for about an hour and a half Friday.
“We had a whole lot of good conversation. There’s no such thing as too much quality. We had some really quality candidates. We feel very comfortable with the direction the search is headed right now,” Woodall said.
Tentatively, Woodall said, a site visit to the district the candidate is from will take place April 22.
“We’re waiting to hear back from the candidate to make sure that it follows their timeline of how they want to break the news to their community,” Woodall said.
Currently, Jim Nelson is the interim superintendent. He was hired after Superintendent Tom Crowe resigned last fall.
