A letter to our readers

Dear Valued Reader,

For more than 90 years, you have made and recognized the Odessa American (OA) as the quality, respected, objective and indispensable source of news and information for the Permian Basin. Our newspaper has changed in many ways over those decades, from its appearance and content to the time of day it was delivered to your door. All of these changes have been in response to your changing needs and preferences.

We live at a time when it has become all too clear that the fastest and most effective way of delivering information to you and our other readers and viewers is digitally. The Odessa American is fortunate to already have hundreds of digital-only subscribers and our online viewership continues to grow steadily. Even on the business side of our operations, we have a steadily and rapidly growing number of advertisers who use us for their digital advertising and marketing needs in addition to their print advertising.

As part of our effort to provide you with news and information in the way you increasingly wish to receive it, the Odessa American is transitioning to a “digital first” format. It is an inescapable response to how you and our many other readers and viewers are consuming news and information today.

Beginning Saturday, April 30th, we are excited to announce the Odessa American will convert to and expand the daily, digital delivery of our products.

Subscribers of the Odessa American will receive via email every morning the digital “e-edition” of our newspaper seven days a week delivered directly to their email account. In addition to this new, seven-day-a-week daily e-edition, the traditional printed edition of the Odessa American will continue to be delivered to subscribers on Wednesdays and Saturdays (the Weekend Edition) via US Postal Mail beginning April 30th. These editions will also be available for purchase at store and rack locations.

The Weekend Edition will retain the most popular features of the Sunday newspaper, including local and national inserts, advertising, coupons, color comics, puzzle book, Parade magazine and much more.

And for single copy readers, you will soon be able to purchase digital single copy editions via our website – www.oaoa.com – any day of the week.

Please know the e-edition is an exact digital replica of the traditional Odessa American newspaper. However, since it is digital, it will now include additional content and features which previously never made it into our printed newspaper.

Also, the e-edition will have full search capabilities, the ability to zoom in on specific content, watch videos, create newspaper clippings and provide direct access to years of Odessa American archives. If you wish, you can even download the entire e-edition to read on paper.

This transition will allow you to access your daily news and information on any digital platform you prefer, including your cell phone, digital tablet, laptop or desktop computer. Best of all, you can access it at any time of day or night. You can read the e-edition in your favorite web browser, via our website (www.oaoa.com) or you can download our app for easier access.

Sincerely,

Patrick Canty
