57th season of MOSC kicks off Sept. 7

It’s been almost six decades of music for the Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale.

The 57th season begins Sept. 7.

Hundreds of professional musicians, under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Gary Lewis, come together to offer a little something for all musical tastes from stirring masterworks repertoire to Broadway show tunes and family concerts.

The season includes:

>>Sept. 7: World-class pianist Roberto Plano performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 along with one of the best-known compositions in classical music, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.

>>Highlighting the November concert is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and featuring violinist Brian Lewis performing Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1.

>>MOSC’s principal tubist Kevin Young will be featured in the January concert From East to West exploring music from across the globe.

>>In April violist Geraldine Walther will perform Bartok’s Viola Concerto. Additionally, this masterworks finale will be “out of this world” with orchestral suite “The Planets” by Gustav Holst paired with video accompaniment.

>>The Pops & Family series presented by Lissa Noël Wagner with Frances Brown features on Oct. 5 (just in time for Halloween) the series opener with The Addams Family in Concert. Press materials detail that audiences will enjoy watching the delightfully twisted family movie on the big screen while the MOSC orchestra performs the charming and imaginative soundtrack live to the film! Costumes are encouraged at this family-friendly concert experience.

>>A West Texas holiday tradition continues with Sounds of the Season to ring in the Yuletide cheer with this family favorite.

>>In March don’t miss Rodgers & Hammersteins Celebration when Broadway veterans Sarah Jane McMahon, Gary Mauer and William Michaels join the symphony and chorale for an evening of Broadway show tunes by musical theatre’s greatest composer/lyricist duo.

>>Finishing the season is a fun and whimsical concert titled Wizards, Witches & Fantastic Beasts. This family concert features the vibrant scores from the Harry Potter films, “Lord of the Rings.”
