1 dead in West Odessa shooting

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office has detained a man in the Tuesday night shooting death of another man in West Odessa.

Sheriff Mike Griffis said deputies received a shots fired call around 5:30 p.m. from a small trailer park on West Westridge Drive and North Cypress Avenue.

When they arrived, they found a man believed to be in his mid-20s deceased in a driveway. They found another man of a similar age on foot around the corner from the scene and took him into custody without incident, Griffis said.

“We were told there was a physical altercation between the deceased and another individual, not the one we have in custody,” Griffis said.

The detained man was taken to the sheriff’s office to be questioned, Griffis said.

“We have what we believe is the weapon that was used, a semi-automatic handgun,” he said.

Griffis said the victim, who has not been identified, was shot multiple times.

It’s unknown if either victim is connected to the trailer park, the sheriff said. Nor do investigators know who called 911.
