Layten Eugene Smith

May 12 Odessa police arrested 20-year-old Layten Eugene Smith and charged him with tampering with physical evidence, a third-degree felony, and public intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.

Officers responded at 6 p.m. Thursday to the 3900 block of East 52nd Street on a check welfare call and Smith reportedly began running from officers when they arrived.

Police reported that Smith jumped into a backyard in the 5300 block of Esmond and they caught him shortly after. Officers reported he hid a bag of synthetic marijuana behind some bushes.

Smith, 5124 Michaels Drive, was being held Friday at the Ector County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond and without bond on a motion to revoke probation charge out of Kerr County.
