First I want to thank all of our fallen soldiers for their sacrifice to preserve our freedom. I can’t express the extent of my heartfelt gratitude for those who gave their lives so we can live in this great county.

I would then thank ALL the men and women who came back to live the freedom they fought for. I want to thank “Wild” Bill McNeal who had the heart to create the Ride to Remember. Also, appreciation goes to all who help facilitate this ride every year. And, I want to thank all the riders who go with us to “ride for those who can’t.”

My good friend Ty Miller and myself have had the honor to be the rear guards and help park and then get all the bikes moving and out on the road for the seven years this ride has been happening. We have a great parking crew that helps in this and could not have been done without their work.

In the past, we have had maybe at the most 380 bikes leave the Permian Basin Vietnam Memorial and make the run to Big Spring in the past. This year, we parked and organized and left with 708 bikes, many riding two-up (two riders).

In the past, we watched riders move in and out of formation, change lanes and move around in the pack. This year, we watched 708 riders stay in one of best formations I have had the pleasure to be in.

Thanks to all of the people who lined the streets of Midland and Big Spring and those on the overpasses and to those truckers who pulled of the side of the highway and held salutes until all riders went by.

A special thank you to the Midland Fire Department for the extended ladders and suspended flag. (We noted the firemen up top taking pictures.) God bless them for the job they do.

Law enforcement agencies in Midland County and Big Spring and several support groups do great service every year in escorting us from the PBVM all the way to the memorial in Big Spring.

We saw colors and patches from so many different chapters and so many individuals not belonging to any group or chapter coming together for a day as Americans to show honor and gratitude to all soldiers who gave the ultimate in all the wars.

What an honor to be a small part of this. I cannot wait to see what next year will be like. Know this, we will be there parking bikes, helping facilitate in any way needed and honoring those who most deserve our honor.
