Ken Brodnax

  • Ken Brodnax was born and raised in San Angelo. He is a graduate of San Angelo Central High School and West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M University). He began his newspaper career in 1968 as a summer intern with the Amarillo Globe-News and became a police and area reporter at the end of the internship. He came to the Odessa American as a police reporter in July 1971 and took a position as a sportswriter in 1972. Brodnax was named sports editor in 1977. In 1982, he was named the first local page columnist for the American. In 1987, he assumed additional duties as editorial page editor. Brodnax won numerous awards for reporting,

Brodnax came to the Odessa American as a police reporter in July 1971 and took a position as a sportswriter in 1972. Brodnax was named sports editor in 1977. In 1982, he was named the first local page columnist for the American. In 1987, he assumed additional duties as editorial page editor. Brodnax won numerous awards for reporting, column writing and headline writing from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors Association, the Texas Press Association and the Texas Sports Writers Association. He died in 2011 of liver cancer.

Celinda Hawkins

  • Celinda Hawkins, a native Odessan, has come home to the Odessa American from the Abilene Reporter-News where she served as the paper's first bureau chief in Brownwood. She was the city editor for the Odessa American.

  • Unlike other Odessa American columnists, Nathaniel Miller is actually not a West Texas native but a transplant from San Antonio. Miller graduated the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2009 with a degree in English, focusing on professional writing.

  • Bill Salter (Poor William) was Publisher of the Odessa American from late 1994, until June 2003 when he was named publisher emeritus. His 'William Tells' column began in 1962 and was published 12 different newspapers, including the OA from October 1994 to August 2008.
