ODESSA Jack G. LeBus, affectionately called Jackson, passed from this worldly life and entered the gates of heaven on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Waiting to greet him was his son, John Richard LeBus, and his daughter, Nancy LeBus Hiett, his mother, Genie LeBus and his beloved airport dog, Kassie who passed away four days before Jackson.

Jackson passed away after a short but valiant battle with leukemia. He passed with all of the dignity and grace that he lived by and it never occurred to him that he wouldn’t beat it. He was born in Bonham, Texas on September 15, 1929. He was a member of St. Lukes’ United Methodist Church.

He was blessed to have had a career doing exactly what he loved to do. He took his first flying lesson when he was 16 years old and retired from flying when he was 75. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1951 and shortly thereafter moved his family to Odessa to work in the oilfield. However, flying airplanes was in his soul. His first flying job was for Richard Henderson in 1963 at Rich-Air Company. To this day he holds Richard near and dear to his heart. He began flying for William B. Blakemore, III in 1964 and flew for the Blakemore family for more than 30 years. He has since been flying and working for Mack Chase and his family at Deer Horn Aviation. He always thought he would miss flying but finally realized that as long as he could still be around his beloved airplanes in other capacities he was still happy. Over his career he logged in close to 20,000 flight hours.

He truly loved his family and friends and he will be greatly missed by them all. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Judy LeBus, and his children, Janie LeBus Wolaver and husband Jerrell, Jack G. LeBus, Jr. and wife Suzie and Ryan T. Thompson and wife Amy. He is also survived by son-in-law, David Hiett and wife Tina. His grandchildren, Brian Hiett, Erin Hiett Greenlee, Angela LeBus Clinkscales, John L. LeBus, Randy LeBus and Sarah LeBus will always love and cherish their last visits with their “Grandpa.” The most recent “lights of his life” are his two great-granddaughters, Addison Faith Clinkscales and Ellie Elizabeth Greenlee, both of whom he had wonderful recent weekends with. Survivors also include his mother-in-law, Jewell Crow, and sisters-in-law, Nancy Moore and Stephany Wilson and husband Tom. He is also survived by his much-loved “puppies” Annie, Mac and Lucy.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2007, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3011 W. Kansas Ave, Midland, TX. Richard Edwards will officiate. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 6801 E. Highway 80, Odessa, TX.

In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the Midland College General Nursing Scholarship Fund, 3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX 79705, Attn: Eileen Piwetz, in honor of the nursing staff in the oncology unit at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Our eternal gratitude goes to Dr. David Watkins and to all of the wonderful nursing staff that loved and cared for Jackson during the past few months. He dearly loved each and every one of you and you will always have a special place in our hearts for the care you gave him.
