ODESSA Robert Lane Chappell, Sr. passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at the age of 94.

Robert was born to Eugenia and M.E. Chappell on November 13, 1912, in Texarkana, Texas. He moved with his parents to Fort Worth when he was 6 months old. He was a member of Hemphill Presbyterian Church where his father was pastor.

Robert graduated Central High School (now Paschal) in Fort Worth in 1930. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 1934. While at TCU he was the first man to letter in Cross-Country track. He also lettered in basketball.

He married Julia Faye Richardson on February 6, 1937. He served his country in World War II in the Philippines and New Guinea.

Robert and Julia Faye moved to Odessa in 1956. While in Odessa they were members of First Presbyterian Church. He was a CPA and Chief Financial Officer for Dixilyn Corporation until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Faye, on March 19, 2005, and his brother, William, on February 14, 2005.

Robert is survived by his son, Dr. Robert Chappell Jr. and wife, Barbara of Odessa; his daughter, Cynthia Ferguson and husband, Roy of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Tammy Peden and husband, Matt of Flower Mound, Texas, Julia Whitener and husband, Jonathan of Fort Worth and Dr. Catherine Anne Chappell and Elizabeth Lane Chappell, both of Dallas; brother, M.E. Chappell, Jr. of Fort Worth; and sister, Eugenia Dussourd and husband, Jules of Princeton, New Jersey. Robert is also survived by two great-grandsons, Price Jennings Peden of Flower Mound, Texas, and Weston Lane Whitener of Fort Worth.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care given to our father by Dr. John H. Doran, and care givers, Frances Navarrete, Noema Padilla and Raul Morales.

Visitation will be at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home on Thursday, August 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2007, at the Greenwood Memorial Park in Ft. Worth.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, Odessa, Westminster Presbyterian Church of Odessa or the charity of your choice.
