At Tuesday’s meeting of the Odessa Music Teachers Association, it was announced that longtime Odessa piano teacher Kathryn Beam will be presented with the first Texas Teaching Fellow Award at the Texas Music Teachers Association state convention on June 9 in Grapevine. Present for the announcement are from left, Ronald Bennett, head trustee for the Texas Music Teachers Association; Kathryn Beam, award recipient; and Marilyn Brewer, president of the Odessa Music Teachers Association.

This award is accompanied by a $1,000 donation in her honor to the Texas Music Teachers Association trust fund. This fund is used to support teachers in enriching their teaching experience. The money was raised by gifts from friends, colleagues and family.

The Texas Music Teachers Association is made up of more than 2,000 collegiate and independent music teachers and is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association.
