John Fogerty will be down on Odessa’s corner this summer as the headliner of the Education Foundation’s 13th annual fundraising concert.

The rock guitarist and singer, famous for his time with Creedence Clearwater Revival, will play the Ector County Coliseum at 8 p.m. June 18.

“We are absolutely thrilled to bring this legendary artist to Odessa to perform at this year’s banquet and fundraiser,” says Craig Van Amburgh, co-chairman for the annual event.

“John’s thrilling live performances and incredible catalogue of classic rock songs such as ‘Proud Mary,’ ‘Fortunate Son,’ ‘Green River,’ ‘Centerfield,’ ‘The Old Man Down the Road,’ and ‘Down on the Corner, is absolutely second to none. It promises to be one of our most memorable concerts,” Van Amburgh said.

Fogerty is an American musician, songwriter, and guitarist who played with CCR before going solo. Fogerty has the rare distinction of being named on Rolling Stone magazine's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists (at No. 40) and the list of 100 Greatest singers (at No. 72).

The Education Foundation started in 2000 and is a group of involved citizens and businesses that raise money to fund innovative projects in the Ector County Independent School District and serves as a catalyst for opportunity through education.

The concert is the only fundraiser of the year and has contributed to more than $1 million in special grants to teachers, benefiting 100,000 students, according to a news release.

Last year Earth, Wind & Fire sang for a funky audience at the Ector County Coliseum. In the past, the foundation has brought in Willie Nelson, Three Dog Night, Heart, Grand Funk Railroad and Kenny Loggins.

“What an honor it is to have one of our generation’s most dynamic and prolific songwriters grace the Education Foundation’s stage this year,” Education Foundation President Rodney Hurt said.

Reserved seat tickets go on sell at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ector County Coliseum box office in Odessa. Tickets are also available at boxofficesolutions.net and at 800-514-3849. Tickets are $60 and $45, plus a handling charge. Sponsor tables may be reserved by calling 432-456-7059.
