Grande Communications Stadium will be rockin’ on May 30 as the Aphasia Center of West Texas will host its fifth annual concert, dubbed “Satisfaction,” to raise awareness to the communities of the Permian Basin.

Headlining the event will be the Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction, and Kitty Binek, executive director of ACWT, said the concert will be an exciting and electric event for everyone who comes out.

“Well, people can expect a very family friendly, fun evening and the concert is going to be spectacular,” Binek said. “Unlike most tribute bands that play for fun, the guys in Satisfaction do this as their job and they are really fantastic. We also had a lot of people ask for Tony Barker, who played at the concert last year, so that is another great part of the concert.”

ACWT is the second independent aphasia center in the United Sates, which provides and supports families who are dealing with stroke and aphasia. One in every 250 people in the Permian Basin faces the challenges of aphasia which include the reduction in speaking ability as well as reading and writing abilities, Binek said.

To assist and educate the community, ACWT provides patients and families with communication strategies, peer networking opportunities and education training to help them continue to live their life to the fullest.

Binek says that while the concert is free, donation buckets will be passed around during the evening, and raffle tickets will be available, but all of the funds raised will go directly back into the ACWT to benefit the community.

While the concert will be a fun and friendly evening, it is most importantly an opportunity to spread awareness about aphasia and how it affects people and their families, Binek and event co-chair David Ham said.

“The concert is definitely a fundraiser, but particularly for us, we like to call it a friend-raiser so we can spread awareness about aphasia which most people don’t know much about,” said Binek about the true meaning of the evening. “Most people on the street can’t tell you what it is so we just feel like it is crucial to inform people about this.”

“This fun event draws people from our entire region for an evening of great music while also growing awareness of the Aphasia Center,” Ham said. “When stroke and aphasia strike, we want people to know of the amazing resources helping people re-engage in life’s activities and interactions.”

During the concert, audiences will also have a place for their children as The Museum of the Southwest will be providing various activities for the kids. Also at the event will be a raffle for a chance to win several prizes including, a bicycle donated by Peyton’s Bikes, a spa packages from Le Debo Na Salon and Day Spa as well as a Kindle Fire HD.

“Bring out your lawn chairs and blankets for a great evening,” Binek said. Sponsored tables are also still available and Binek says that the tables will come with valet parking, a catered dinner and private bar facilities.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a table or reserving seats should call the ACWT at 432-699-1261 or visit their website at www.aphasiawtx.org/Satisfaction.php. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m., Barker will take the stage at 7 p.m. and will be followed by Satisfaction at 8 p.m.
